14 Remodeling and Home Improvement Ideas

Posted On: December 10th, 2016 12:28PM

If you’re looking to improve your home, of course you have to consider several things. First of all, will this improvement satisfy and fulfill a need? It’s important that you answer it truthfully because home improvements are generally expensive so at least make sure you are aware of your needs. In addition, will you be able to afford it? There are a lot of home improvement ideas, some affordable and some are expensive. The good thing is depending on your need, there’s usually an affordable and more expensive option.

Another Factor to Consider

The factors listed above are for the present. As a homeowner, you also have to consider the future. In this case, you have to consider how this improvement is going to help you in the future.

It’s not just about making sure that this investment will last a very long time. Hiring a reliable contractor can help make sure of that. You also have to consider how it’s going to affect your home’s resale value. This is true even if you’re not really planning on selling your home. Who knows what the future holds?

If you’re going to invest in a home improvement project, at least make sure that it will help increase your home’s resale value. This way, you’ll be able to recoup a good part of your investment when you do decide to sell your home later on.

The Best Home Improvement Ideas

Here are the best home improvement ideas that not only satisfy and fulfill a specific need but also help increase your home’s resale value:

  • Garage door replacement

This is actually something that you can do right now because it’s very affordable. On average, it will just cost you $1,595 to have a better looking (and functioning) garage door. It will increase your home’s resale value by $1,410 so that’s an investment well spent.

  • Vinyl siding replacement

Curb appeal matters when it comes to determining a home’s resale value and vinyl is king when it comes to siding. Spend $12,013 on vinyl siding replacement and based on the national average, you can expect to recoup 80.7% of your investment when you sell your home later on.

  • Wooden deck addition

A wooden deck is not only beautiful; it’s highly functional as well. This is why it’s not a surprise that it improves the home’s resale value by $8,085. Not bad for a $10,048 investment.

  • Minor kitchen remodel

The kitchen usually makes or breaks a deal so make sure that you’ll have a kitchen that prospective buyers would love. Homeowners spend $19,226 on average for a minor kitchen remodel but they’re able to recoup 79.3% of their investment because buyers are generally willing to pay $15,255 more because of the remodeled kitchen. Here’s a REALLY minor kitchen remodel that yielded major results!

What It's Like to be the Wife of a Die Hard Chicago Cubs Fan

Posted On: November 2nd, 2016 8:01PM

Tonight's THE night. Go big or go home. This is for all the marbles. It is game 7 of the World Series between the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs. For some, this is just another average night.

This is no ordinary average night for Cubs fans though. Hopefully this will be a historical night.  A night that has not been experienced since 1908.

I am a Cubs fan by marriage. I never had any loyalty to any baseball team before meeting my husband. As a matter of fact, I don't think I ever even watched an entire baseball game on t.v until I met him.  I started watching the games with him because I was smitten and wanted to spend as much time as humanly possible with him.

But then over time,  I really started to like watching the Cubs play.  I knew player's names and I even had adorable nicknames for the players.
(Carlos Mármol was "Marmolade" as in sweet lady,  Mike Fontenot was Fonte"yes",  Henry Blanco was "Hank White", and Reed Johnson was "my boyfriend" and then there was Kosuke Fukudome - sorry but I can't even go there.)

I was becoming a real fan.  I was a real fan from about 2007 to.... 2010. Then we had a baby and all that stuff so new baby was "in" and the Cubs were "out". Sorry Cubs.

My husband though, has been a die hard fanatic from the beginning. He was born a fan and will die a fan.  Bless his heart. He has stuck by that team through it all-the highs, the lows, the Bartman fiasco, and 2011-2014.  And now, it all culminates tonight. I hope so so so much that they win because I want my husband to feel that extreme high. He was at Wrigley for game 4 and they lost. I want that gross feeling he left with to be replaced with exuberance from a big fat  W tonight.

Plus, the 30 minute drive home will be a ton better if they win.  For real.

So I end with this:

Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago! What d'ya say- Cubs are gonna win today!!

Peace out.

Sweater Weather

Posted On: October 20th, 2016 3:28AM

It's here! I can feel it. Autumn in Phoenix. Yes, it's true- highs are still in the 90s but that's Fall folks. Sweater weather. The temps will soon be in the mid 70s to low 80s and you will see all of us emerge from our homes like little caterpillars turned butterflies, squeezing out of our cocoons of air conditioned comfort. For the next 8 months we will hike the trails, jog the paths, ride our bikes. We get to go outside again!

There's a million great things to do in Phoenix when the weather is good. I'm going to give you my top 5.

Topping my list is going hiking. I love to hike South Mountain. It's as easy or as hard as you want to make it.  Camelback and Piestewa Peak are also great hiking spots.

Another great thing to do when the weather gets cool is to visit the Phoenix Zoo

Number 3 is running. I like to run, but I'm no die hard runner. As a matter of fact, the conditions must be perfect for me to get out there to run and when I say run, I mean a 14 minute mile. So yah, that's like walking. So I like to take walks when it's nice outside.  *sigh*

Next up is outdoor dining. There are so many great spots to eat that have outdoor seating. It's so awesome to just enjoy a beverage, good food, and fresh air.
Alrighty then... last but not least is taking la mini me to the park to run off some energy.  There's no shortage of parks to pick from in the ChandlerMesaGilbert area.

Tumbleweed Park is one of our faves.

If reading about 5 of my favorite ways to kick off sweater weather in Arizona kind of made you want to search for houses, then AWESOME! Click here to do just that.
