What It's Like to be the Wife of a Die Hard Chicago Cubs Fan

Posted On: November 2nd, 2016 8:01PM

Tonight's THE night. Go big or go home. This is for all the marbles. It is game 7 of the World Series between the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs. For some, this is just another average night.

This is no ordinary average night for Cubs fans though. Hopefully this will be a historical night.  A night that has not been experienced since 1908.

I am a Cubs fan by marriage. I never had any loyalty to any baseball team before meeting my husband. As a matter of fact, I don't think I ever even watched an entire baseball game on t.v until I met him.  I started watching the games with him because I was smitten and wanted to spend as much time as humanly possible with him.

But then over time,  I really started to like watching the Cubs play.  I knew player's names and I even had adorable nicknames for the players.
(Carlos Mármol was "Marmolade" as in sweet lady,  Mike Fontenot was Fonte"yes",  Henry Blanco was "Hank White", and Reed Johnson was "my boyfriend" and then there was Kosuke Fukudome - sorry but I can't even go there.)

I was becoming a real fan.  I was a real fan from about 2007 to.... 2010. Then we had a baby and all that stuff so new baby was "in" and the Cubs were "out". Sorry Cubs.

My husband though, has been a die hard fanatic from the beginning. He was born a fan and will die a fan.  Bless his heart. He has stuck by that team through it all-the highs, the lows, the Bartman fiasco, and 2011-2014.  And now, it all culminates tonight. I hope so so so much that they win because I want my husband to feel that extreme high. He was at Wrigley for game 4 and they lost. I want that gross feeling he left with to be replaced with exuberance from a big fat  W tonight.

Plus, the 30 minute drive home will be a ton better if they win.  For real.

So I end with this:

Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago! What d'ya say- Cubs are gonna win today!!

Peace out.
