Many many moons ago, before the 2007 real estate crash, I was quite active on activerain. Unfortunately I was kind of a newby to the real estate industry at the time so the crash got the best of me and I was forced to search out other means of support during that crisis.

Well, a few years ago I decided to give it another try so I reinstated my RE license. Now I'm back at it again fumbling with different tactics to see what works and what doesn't to get my career back on track, and I remembered that activerain actually did work. So I set up a new account since I couldn't figure out how to get back into my existing account from years past.

Anyway, I thought since this is my first blog in many years, I would re-post a blast from my past to reintroduce myself. It may be a little outdated but it's on the light and hopefully humorous side. Here I go again...

I know everybody has their own reasons for getting into real estate, so I am in no way implying that these reason reflect every agents opinions. But in my opinion these are some pretty darn good ones.

10.) Your family and friends will be star struck every time you enter the room.

9.) You get to cut out that pesky middle man, the health insurance company, and pay the doctors directly.

8.) You feel sorry for the oil companies, so you want to do your part in helping them by driving around for hours.

7.) Everybody is dying to get a card with your picture on it.

6.) You get to use words like; subprime meltdown, burnout, and gazump and gazunder.

5.) It's a great excuse to decorate your car like a clown mobile.

4.) You love taking people you don't know out for lunch.

3.) Free lunch is provided with almost every meeting.

2.) You have always wanted to be a mind reader.

And the #1 reason that everyone gets into this business is...

...It beats having a REAL job.

There you have it maybe you found this humorous, maybe offensive, how you look at life will determine your reaction. Personally I believe you have to be able to laugh at yourself and not take life so seriously, otherwise it will take it's toll on you. What do you think?

PS, My personal reason for going into real estate is to share this kind of valuable information with my friends at ActiveRain.

In spite of job losses, drop in tourism, and economic hardship caused by the current pandemic crisis, the sellers market is still holding strong in Phoenix Arizona.

Due to an overwhelming migration into our valley, the demand for homes has increased significantly. Whether you're a buyer or a renter, when a quality property comes on the market, expect to compete for it.

We've had a very strong sellers' market for quite some time here in the valley. One would have thought that this pandemic would have caused a drop in sales, and yet there has been no downward trend whatsoever. Prices under $500K are still holding strong and rising, and homes priced over $500K have seen only a slight decrease in sales over the last few months.

If you're a seller, things are still looking pretty good for you. Our demand far exceeds our supply, so prices continue to increase, and time on the market continues to decrease. However, please don't allow yourself to believe that you can get way over market value. Your home still has to appraise according to market value and condition,  Buyers are now more knowledgable due to online information and the help of a good agent. With that said, as long as you price your home accordingly, maintain the landscape, make all necessary repairs, declutter spaces and create a good traffic flow, you will get your asking price (maybe more) in a short period of time.

If you're a buyer and are waiting for the prices to drop, that's not going to happen anytime soon. Don't let that discourage you from buying, because with interest rates at historic lows, it's still a great time to buy.

As your HomeSmart Elite Phoenix real estate expert, I have all the tools of the trade to sell your home and help you find your perfect dream home. All of which protect you during the buying and selling process, and provide you with valuable assistance in making financial decisions.

The definition of Phoenix is a long-lived bird that cynically regenerates or is otherwise born again. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of it's predecessors.

With our extreme summers, you may think the city got it's name from this fiery mythical Greek bird that has close associations with the sun. That is true to point.

The name Phoenix originally came from a man named Phillip Duppa. Duppa was an Englishman that came to Arizona, and eventually to the Valley of the Sun. He was a businessman and a bit of a Pioneer. He offered that name not because the location was hot like the magical Phoenix wrapped in flames, but more to symbolize a rebirth.

If you find that to be interesting, here are 5 more fun facts you may like.

 1. Weather

Phoenix is the sunniest major city in the United States, it averages over 300 days of sunshine per year. The average winter temperature is about 67 degrees Fahrenheit (19 in Celsius) and rarely dips below freezing. No umbrellas needed here because it hardly ever rains.

With that said, you can count on about 100 days of temperatures over 100*F (38*C) between late May and early September. Needless to say this is one the hottest cities as well. Our summer months are know as monsoon season. Monsoons can produce thunderstorms, heavy rain, lightning, hail, high winds, flash flooding, dust storms and extreme heat. They are usually short lived but can last up to 3 hours.

The hottest day ever recorded in our beloved Valley of the Sun was June 26TH 1990, when the temperature reached 122*F (50*C). I remember that day well. Personally, I would recommend a home with a pool.

2. Outdoor Activities

There are so many reasons to move to Phoenix. One being the abundance of outdoor activities to take advantage of in our diverse valley. With almost 200 golf courses, Phoenix has become one of the hot spot destinations in the world for golfing. But if golfing doesn't suit your fancy, there are plenty of other outdoor activities that will. When the weather is right, which is about 9 months out of the year, you can go hiking, biking, Jeeping and other off road adventures, or horseback riding. Or, you can always take advantage of one the six nearby lakes.

Enjoying the great outdoors is a favorite pass time for most our Phoenicians residents and visitors.

3. No Daylight Saving Time

Do you ever wonder why we have to reset our clocks twice year? Yeah, me too. Guess what? Here in Arizona you never have to "Spring Forward" or Fall Back", you just ride the same clock out all year long. Gotta Love That!

4. Sports

Phoenix sports teams are alive and well in all 4 pro catagories. Arizona Cardinals Football, Diamondbacks Baseball, Coyotes Hockey and Phoenix Suns Basketball.

Although not really a sports event, we begin our year with the Barrett-Jackson Auction, described as the World's Greatest Collector Car Auction. Followed by Waste Management Phoenix Open, also know as "The Greatest Show on Grass". Believe me, this is like no other golf tournament. The valley really goes into high gear in March, that's when Spring Training begins. Phoenix is the host to 15 major league teams which include, LA Dodgers, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland A's, Seattle Mariners, San Fransisco Giants, Texas Rangers, and of course our very own Diamondbacks.

NASCAR fan? Not to worry, ISM Raceways hosts 2 events each season.

Last little tidbit is that Phoenix has hosted 2 Super-bowls since our stadium opened in 1998 and is scheduled to host it's next Superbowl in 2023.

5. Business Outlook

When it comes to the economy, Arizona's business outlook is solid. The real estate market is strong. We've had significant growth in the housing market for nearly 10 years, interest rates are low, consumer spending is up and economic growth is on the rise.

There are many high tech companies relocating to our area, Amazon, Acronis, Valor Global, and TEKsystem just to name a few. We are rapidly becoming the Silicon Valley of the desert, a major hot spot for technology companies.

In health-care, cosmetics, and MedTech we are seeing a huge reliance of independent companies on the rise. We are shifting from funding big corporations to seeking out new and innovative platforms, treatments and research.

Although this year Covid 19 has put a huge damper on our tourism industry, normally it produces nearly $24.5 billion dollars annually.

Our "Five C's": Copper, Cattle, Cotton, Citrus, and Climate are slowly becoming a thing of the past.

If you actually read my entire blog, I thank you wholeheartedly.

There's nothing like having a mountain in your own backyard. I've received my fair share of exercise from hiking the various trails on Look Out Mountain while enjoying all the spectacular views and natural habitat. You can feel like you're in the middle of nowhere and still get a great city scape from certain peaks and valleys.

The hike to the top is easy to moderate with the biggest challenge close to the peak.  This is where it gets a bit rocky and may require you to demostrate your upper body strength. It's not  far to the top so you will be enjoying the beautiful 360 degree view within 30 minutes. You can see the Phoenix city scape facing south, the McDowell Mountain range facing east, and if you look real hard to the west, you will see the Cardinals football stadium in Glendale.

I Love The Look Out Mountain Preserve!!!

Who am I if not me?

How can I be a better real estate agent?

Maybe I can be taller?

Popular consensus tells us that the ideal height for men is between 5’10” and 6’0” tall and for women it is between 5’5” and 5’7” tall. Well, if being taller makes you a more preferred salesman, I may be out of luck. Unless men’s platforms come back in fashion.

Maybe I can be a woman?

I fall in the ideal height category for a woman, but would I even look good as a woman?

Well we know that there are far more ladies in this industry than men. And we know that ladies dominate the market in sales. But statics do show that men have a slight edge in getting listings in most states (Arizona being one of them).

So maybe I should focus more on getting listings?

What if I was better looking?

A new study shows that the more good looking the real estate agent, the more money they “might” earn you if selling your home. Maybe that’s why photographers earn so much from Realtor head shots.

Not to sound vain, but I have always considered myself more on the attractive side. So I may have an advantage in this department.

Oh wait, does being short take away from my attractiveness? Never mind.

Be yourself?

I know I’ve done this before. People do like me when I’m just being me. So maybe there is something to this. Let’s see what the benefits are to being yourself.

1. You’ll be happier.

I like being happy so this makes me happy.

2. You’ll attract the right friends.

There’s nothing wring with that, I can’t stand fake friendships

.

3. You won’t anything to prove.

They say if you have to prove your honesty, chances are you’ve already lost the battle. We all know that’s not good in the real estate world.

4. Nobody can hold anything against you.

Being yourself means you speak the truth, you have nothing to hide, you keep things real. I’m pretty sure most people are ok with that.

5. Your confidence will show.

Anyone who loves who they are, has an unstoppable amount of self confidence.

This alone should be enough to want to be yourself.

6. You can inspire others.

Being comfortable with who you are reflects confidence. This can change somebody’s life just by showing them it’s ok to be honest and it’s ok to follow your heart. Be an inspiration to the people around you.

Let’s make honesty go viral.

7. You’ll gain a higher level of respect.

Who can’t see through phony people? Who likes you when you’re not being genuine? If they do, they’re just looking to take advantage of you, right?

So be yourself, be confident, and watch how others warm to you and respect you for who you are.

8. You’ll make better decisions.

When you know who you are, you make decisions based on being yourself, not someone you know nothing about. Good sound decisions always come from what’s deep inside you, so doesn’t make sense that the person inside you is yourself?

9. You won’t feel like a fraud.

When you are fake, people will see that you are fake, and they will treat you like a fake.

This will make feel like a fraud and nobody likes to feel like that.

10. People are more likely to trust you.

DING! DING! DING! Trust! Isn’t that what it’s all about? Yes! The answer is most definitely Yes. Without trust you have nothing in this business. No happiness, no confidence, no respect, no clients and above all

No Money!

Ok, no more yelling:)

I know what I need to do.

Just be me.

I can do this.
