What to Do with Leftover Paint? A painter once said, keep only the paint you will likely reuse. Did you have a quart-sized can of latex paint leftover for touch-ups? Label it with a date where you have consistently cool temperatures for latex paint or transfer the contents into a glass container so you can use it for touch-ups later. So the garage was not a great idea for my paint. I ended up finding that all of the paint had hardened in a number of cans, so I threw it out in the garbage. I did see some cans that were half still wet, so I took the lids off and let it harden for disposal. The painter did say I could use equal amounts of kitty litter to absorb the paint liquid. If I had storied it correctly, typically the paint would have been usable for 10 years. Oil-based paint, used for doors and molding, can last much longer. However, the painter said to wait for a recycle day for the city you live in. Some cities have municipal disposal sites for household chemicals, so you might want to call. #homeimprovement #whattodo with leftover paint #disposal of used paint
