Don Martone was a highly effective realtor for my family, from our first meeting in March until the closing in July 2015. The ambitious timeline he set for the sale of my father’s property came through in near-record time! He was always in communication and available at all times to help with our questions and concerns. Don is also involved in neighborhood development and is well educated on city regulations and policies.
My father had worked with realtors previously with buying property, but he was a bit wary of the potential cost of working with a broker on selling. I wanted my father to feel at ease with a realtor representing this now charming, restored Cape and also have a successful and worry-free sale.
Early in 2015 we sought out advice from and interviewed several very fine realtors in the area, a few of whom I had been in touch with and one my father knew. We were generously given varying advice about staging and upgrading the property, inside and out. We both enjoyed collaborating with Don on if and how to update the 1950s kitchen and if we were to stage the interior for sale. We were happy that the property sold itself, with some kitchen upgrades and without expensive staging.
The house needed TLC and a major makeover. The paint on the walls buckled and revealed an under-layer of horsehair plaster under several-decades-old layers of vintage wallpaper, all of which had to be meticulously removed. During the previous year, I completely cleaned, made over, refinished, spackled, sanded and painted the interior top to bottom. My father and I cleaned and cleared the large yard, had large trees removed, planted shrubbery, and made more room for cars to enter the driveway. The beautiful hardwood floors were now gleaming.
Making over the house was all a long and wonderful labor of love, and we are grateful to Don Martone for securing the right buyer at the right price with superb timing. My father and I feel that Don has unusually great charisma and passion for what he does. It’s his follow-through, expert planning abilities, and communication that are his best selling features. I met Don Martone over the telephone after my wife and I had just come off a one week listing on a For Sale By Owner website. Every call I got that week was from a Realtor. We were pretty much done with Realtors because the agent we originally listed our house with was not truthful to us, did not do what she said she would do, and cost us over $10,000. So we fired her.
