Fictitious & Fake, But No Facts

Posted On: March 15th, 2021 1:28PM

Welcome to my inaugural post! I am Sharon Martlock, and I hold many titles - mother, wife, grandmother, broker, associate broker, teacher, etc. Of all the titles I have, baby boomer is #1 for this site. As I have grown older, I have heard so many things that make me wonder if I am doing it right:

  • You look good for (whatever age I was at the time);
  • You shouldn't be doing that;
  • Ladders are for young people;
  • To which retirement community are you moving;
  • You are still working?!

I mean, other people's perceptions just blow me away! I am sure they are being compassionate and caring, but they come off as presumptuous and dismissive. Much of their concern is based on what I call #fakefacts.

Societal viewpoints and personal expectations notwithstanding, I am here to tell you, that over 50 is not over!

We are still working, still contributing, still a vital part of this world. We have so much to offer in so many ways. Just ask one of us. We will be happy to share our opinions and what we know! LOL.

Just as those under 50, we as baby-boomers or senior citizens or the elderly are not one-size-fits-all or a boxed demographic. We have a gazillion (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration) options in life. The sky and beyond are still the limit! We are still working in our chosen careers, still learning and trying new things. We are more open to change and tend to embrace it more fully than most would think. Hey, some of us are students of this new-fangled thing called Social Media. If we are retired from the 9-5, but not life, there's travel and exploration, a second career, and pursuing other talents and interests that have been put on the back-burner. Our individual ceilings are the ones we set ourselves, not those set by life, the decade, or our age.

We will explore as many of the choices as possible in this blog. I look forward to sharing the many courses available!
