HomeSmart CEO Honored in Phoenix Business Journal’s Most Admired Leaders

Matt Widdows is Recognized for Integrity, Values, Vision and Commitment to Excellence

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The CEO of HomeSmart, one of the nation’s largest residential real estate brokerages, Matt Widdows, was selected as one of Phoenix Business Journal’s Most Admired Leaders in 2023. The award recognizes leaders that are community and industry trailblazers, championing innovation through corporate-giving programs, service and volunteerism.

Widdows established HomeSmart in 2000 with his combined real estate and technology background. Driven by his vision and dedication, the company now has grown to more than 26,000 agents across 47 states.

“I am honored to be recognized as one of Phoenix’s Most Admired Leaders and have the ability to show the dedication HomeSmart has to excellence and our community,” Widdows said. “This award honors the work of every HomeSmart employee and their ability to commit to our values and vision.”

As HomeSmart continues to grow, he remains immensely involved and passionate about both his business and the people who work with him. He decided several years ago that he wanted the culture at HomeSmart to be something genuine and true that people gravitated towards. Widdows puts his team first and believes that not just one person has to be right in a situation, everyone needs to be involved to get it right as a team.

Widdows is passionate about giving back to the community and more specifically, children who are disadvantaged in some way. He volunteers flights in his plane to kids through Angel Flight West, a non-profit organization that provides air travel for children and adults who are too ill or cannot afford to fly to the hospital or healthcare provider commercially. He has also packed his plane with supplies and come to people’s aid during natural disasters, including rescue missions during Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Harvey and the California Wildfires.

Through his personal commitment to service, Widdows has fostered a corporate culture that focuses on giving back to the community. He encourages agent and employee attendance at philanthropic events around the valley and across the nation through HomeSmart’s non-profit, HomeSmart Helps.

“One of my passions in life is giving back and I share it with everyone on the HomeSmart team,” said Widdows. “It’s important to pay it forward with your time and/or resources because it creates waves of impact that elicit positive change in the world.”
