Matteson is a village in Cook and Will counties, Illinois, and is called the "Crossroads of Heritage and Progress." In the mid 1800s, Matteson pioneers certainly could not imagine that the village would one day be home to nearly 13,000 residents, three school districts as well as private and parochial schools, and a booming major retail and office center. The Village was named after the 10th Governor of Illinois Joel A. Matteson, who was in office at the time of the settlement. As time progressed, Matteson incorporated new technologies while still remaining true to its heritage.
The Village of Matteson is a thriving community that is conveniently located off I-57, just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago. Home to nearly 20,000 residents, hundreds of businesses and the close proximity of two major hospitals. Matteson offers the best of suburban living, and features a culturally diverse residential population, a growing business area with a vast amount of shopping centers, award-winning schools, surrounding universities, a state-of-the-art community center and exceptional Village services. South Holland is a village in Cook County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census South Holland had a population of 22,030 people with 7,663 households, and 6,007 families residing in the village. South Holland's motto is "A Heritage of Faith; An Emphasis on Family; A Home for Our Future". In 2007, Forbes magazine declared South Holland to be the "Most Livable Metro-Area suburb" of the Chicago metropolitan area.
South Holland, Illinois, was first settled in 1846 by immigrants from South Holland, Netherlands. The village retained much of its ethnic and agricultural heritage for over one hundred years. Now no longer reliant on agriculture and no longer predominantly Dutch, South Holland nevertheless still holds onto its ethnic past, but has assumed a new role as an ethnically diverse residential suburb. Though developers and former city dwellers tried to alter the rural landscape of South Holland, they did little to change the character given to the community by its Dutch founders. Because of this, South Holland still maintains much of it's rural charm.
South Holland continues to redevelop and thrive with it's outstanding residential neighborhoods, recreational and community opportunities, family-geared recreational hot-spots, first rate schools, and beautiful parks that distinguishes The Village of South Holland as a quality community.
